A conservative watchdog group says that the Open Society Foundations, a network of grantmakers started by billionaire George Soros, gives money to groups that have openly backed Hamas’s terrorist attacks against Israel.
A letter was sent last week by President Brent Bozell of the Media Research Center (MRC) along with Vice President Dan Schneider to Soros and his son Alex, who runs Open Society. In it, they pointed out that the foundation has ties to groups that support Hamas. The Daily Wire was the only one who could get the letter.
On October 7, hundreds of Hamas terrorists attacked southern Israel from the Gaza Strip. They killed over 1,400 Israelis and hurt thousands more. It was the darkest day for Jews since the Holocaust. There were also at least 30 Americans murdered by the rebels. Israel’s military says that Hamas has nearly 200 people held hostage in Gaza.
“This week, President Biden told Jewish leaders, ‘Silence is involvement. Part of the blame for the horrible things happening in the world lies with people who don’t stand up for Israel in public. After reading this, I can’t believe you haven’t said anything,” the letter says.
The MRC letter continued by quoting past US presidents George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and Donald Trump who all denounced Hamas.
“These strong words made us wonder why a group like yours that says it supports ‘human rights’ and ‘democratic solutions’ would hide while Israel, which is the sole democracy in the region of the Middle East, fights to stay alive. Then we found out why,” wrote Bozell and Schneider.
“According to our early research, we have already found that you and the Open Society Foundations have given money to a number of groups that support Hamas. ‘Charitable’ dollars worth millions of dollars have gone to these groups, paying for their filth,” they said.
The leaders of the MRC named seven groups that they said got money from the Open Society Foundations and also put out comments that supported Palestinian crime against Israel or spread lies about the Jewish state.
On October 8, the Middle East Children’s Alliance shared a message that said, “We are seeing the people of Gaza rise up in response to decades of Israeli settler colonial violence. The US government is to blame for supporting this cruel racist rule through politics, the economy, and the military.”
On October 9, the Palestinian Institute for Public Diplomacy wrote, “As the world calls for Israel’s right to defend itself once more, we must remember who is oppressing whom.”
“Since your donations have been absorbed straight through the bloodstream of those who want to kill all Jews and destroy Israel, it is clear that you’ve got an even greater duty to cleanse yourselves of your sins,” the MRC letter reads. “Because of this, we demand that you reveal all of your pro-Hamas grantees, publicly denounce all of them, stop giving them any money, get back any donations that have already been sent to them, and put an end to your war on Israel as well as the Jewish people around the world.”
