14 Arrests, Zero Consequences — Charlotte Livestreamer Finally Caught After Attacking Women on Camera

A 32-year-old man with 14 prior arrests walked up to a woman on a sidewalk off East Boulevard in Charlotte's South End, told her "don't wave to me," and punched her. Then he stood over her and asked, "You still talking?" He filmed the whole thing and posted it to social media.

Police say it appears to be random.

Di-Quan Schafar Hunt was taken into custody by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, charged with assault with a deadly weapon. The arrest came after multiple videos of Hunt allegedly attacking and chasing women on the streets of Charlotte went viral across social media platforms. The original assault was reported on July 30 — meaning Hunt had a full week of freedom between the attack and the arrest, during which the videos racked up millions of views.

The victim in the July 30 incident suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. According to WBTV, she appeared unconscious on the pavement in one of the videos. Hunt's criminal history includes at least nine arrests between October 2023 and December 2025, with prior charges including communicating threats, assault on a female, and violating domestic violence orders.

Communicating threats. Assault on a female. Violating domestic violence orders. Fourteen times through the system. And he was on the street, filming content.

Matt Van Swol, the videographer who surfaced the footage, wrote that he had "obtained footage of a Black male attacking a White woman on the streets of Charlotte NC." He described the video showing Hunt appearing to attack her "for no reason while she walks on the sidewalk" before chasing her and saying he would kill her.

The timeline here matters. The attack happened July 30. The videos went viral within days. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police had an active investigation underway, according to their own statement, but the arrest didn't come until August 6 — a week later, and only after the footage became impossible to ignore. The department stated that social media videos were "presented as evidence" during the investigation, which is a polite way of saying the internet did their job for them.

Some will point out that the system worked because Hunt was eventually caught. Which is true in the same way that a smoke detector works if it goes off after the house has already burned down. The system had Hunt in custody fourteen times. His rap sheet reads like a preview of exactly this kind of escalation — threats, assaults on women, domestic violence violations — and every single time, the revolving door spun him back onto the street.

Hunt was evaluated at a medical facility before being transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office. He now faces a charge of assault with a deadly weapon. One charge. After fourteen arrests. For attacks he was confident enough to livestream.

That confidence is the part worth sitting with. A man with a record that long doesn't film himself committing violent crimes unless he has learned, through repeated experience, that the system won't do anything about it. He didn't hide. He didn't run. He broadcast. Because nothing in his fourteen prior encounters with the justice system taught him there would be a consequence worth worrying about.
