Chicago's Latest 'Hate Crime' Was a Hoax — Committed by an Anti-Trump Leftist

A cross-burning incident in Chicago's Grant Park that was breathlessly reported as a hate crime has turned out to be yet another hoax — this time perpetrated by Merlin Lu, a 21-year-old University of Illinois Chicago senior and anti-Trump leftist who staged the whole thing as a "protest" against MAGA supporters. Jussie Smollett's city strikes again, folks.

You truly cannot make this up. The demand for racism in America so far exceeds the supply that a college kid had to build his own cross, set it on fire, and slap a MAGA hat on top of it just to manufacture the outrage the left so desperately craves.

As Breitbart's John Nolte reported, the flaming cross in Grant Park initially sent the media and the usual professional outrage merchants into overdrive. Motorist Keinika Carlton recorded video of the wooden cross engulfed in flames, and the narrative was off to the races before anyone bothered to ask a basic question: who actually did this?

Gina Miranda Samuels, a culture researcher at the University of Chicago, told reporters that "people feel emboldened and are invited to see how far they can go." Frank Chapman, executive director of the National Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression, declared "they got a license now." The implication was obvious — this was Trump's America, and the bigots were running wild.

Except it wasn't a bigot. It was a 21-year-old Asian college student who hates Trump.

Lu admitted he "knew the implications of a burning cross and had placed a MAGA hat atop the cross" — so this wasn't some innocent misunderstanding. He built a racist symbol on purpose, planted it in a public park, and set it ablaze specifically to frame Trump supporters. Then he had the gall to claim "I didn't know the severity, how racially motivated it may seem." You just said you knew the implications, Merlin. Pick a story.

My personal favorite detail? When asked about his inspiration, Lu said "I just saw the Wikipedia page with the movie." A University of Illinois Chicago senior, deep in the heart of the Woke Era, getting his history from Wikipedia movie pages. Your tuition dollars at work, America.

This goes straight into the hate-hoax hall of fame, right alongside Jussie Smollett's infamous 2 a.m. Subway sandwich run where two MAGA-hatted attackers supposedly roamed the frozen streets of Chicago with bleach and a noose. Same city. Same playbook. Same result.

The pattern is always identical. Step one: a shocking "hate crime" dominates the news cycle. Step two: the experts and activists rush to the microphones to blame conservatives. Step three: it turns out the perpetrator is from the same political tribe that was screaming the loudest. Step four: the corrections run at a whisper while the original narrative lives forever in people's minds.

Lu staged a cross burning — one of the most vile symbols of racial terror in American history — and aimed it squarely at people who support the sitting president. He weaponized racism as a political tool. That's not protest. That's a smear operation with fire.

The next time someone lectures you about the rising tide of "hate" in Trump's America, remember Merlin Lu. Remember that the "hate crime" was committed by the same side that never stops lecturing everyone else about hate.
