From Trump's Defense Table to Running the DOJ — Todd Blanche Gets the Ultimate Promotion

President Trump just nominated the man who defended him in a Manhattan courtroom to run the entire Department of Justice, and somewhere a whole lot of prosecutors are stress-eating right now. Todd Blanche, who served as Trump's private defense lawyer during the infamous New York trial, is getting the permanent Attorney General gig — announced by the president himself at a Rose Garden Club Dinner.

Trump said, "Tomorrow I'm instructing Dan and everybody else that's involved in that very complicated process, which is gonna go, I think, very quickly, that we are going to make him permanent Attorney General," the president said, referring to Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino, who posted video of the announcement on social media.

Blanche has already been confirmed by the Senate once — he was approved last year as Deputy Attorney General, stepping into a senior DOJ leadership role after Pam Bondi departed as Attorney General earlier this spring. So the guy isn't exactly a stranger to the building. He's been running the day-to-day. Now he just gets the nameplate on the big office.

And we all know why the left is going to lose their minds over this. Blanche saw the weaponization of the justice system from the inside — from the defense table. He knows exactly how the game was played, exactly which levers were pulled, and exactly which "faithful career public servants" were doing the pulling. Now he's got the keys to the whole building.

The confirmation process should be interesting, to put it mildly. Democrats will undoubtedly screech about conflicts of interest and loyalty tests and whatever other talking points MSNBC cooks up by Thursday. But Blanche has already been through Senate confirmation once. He's already been doing the job. The only thing changing is the title.

Just The News first reported the announcement, which came during what was supposed to be a pleasant dinner event. Leave it to Trump to turn a garden party into breaking news.

For those of us who watched the Manhattan circus unfold — the gag orders, the jury instructions that read like a choose-your-own-adventure novel, the whole degrading spectacle — there's something deeply satisfying about this. The man who stood up for Trump when it counted is now going to stand up for the rule of law from the top chair at the DOJ. Funny how things work out when you let the voters decide.
