That was President Trump's opening line as he announced the creation of a brand-new government body dedicated entirely to artificial intelligence — and the forthcoming appointment of an "AI czar" to run it.
The name? AI Force. And if it sounds like Space Force's smarter younger sibling, that's because it is.
Trump announced the initiative on Friday, framing AI as nothing less than "the next Industrial Revolution" and making clear his administration has no intention of slowing it down. "We will not in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible Industry," he said, capitalizing the words the way he does when he really means them.
The new AI Force is modeled directly on Space Force, the military branch Trump created during his first term that Democrats mocked relentlessly until it became one of the most strategically vital arms of the U.S. defense apparatus. The AI czar appointment, Trump said, will come "in the near future," and the position will oversee AI integration across national security, the criminal and civil justice system, and government operations broadly.
What makes the announcement land harder than a typical policy rollout is the number attached to it. AI is projected to account for 25% of U.S. GDP — a quarter of the entire American economy running through technology that half of Congress still thinks is a spell-check feature.
"We are leading China, and the rest of the World, and I intend to keep that way!" Trump added, as reported by Just The News. That line alone separates his approach from every Democratic AI proposal floated in the last three years, each of which started with the words "regulate," "restrict," or "study further."
The Democratic position on AI has been consistent: slow it down, form a committee, then form a committee to oversee the committee. Senator Schumer held his "AI Insight Forums" back in 2023. The output was a bipartisan agreement that AI is complicated. Meanwhile, China poured billions into military AI applications and didn't wait for a forum.
Trump's approach skips the hand-wringing entirely. Instead of asking whether the government should use AI, he built a government body to make sure it does — with the same structural permanence he gave Space Force. Democrats who called Space Force a joke spent the next five years quietly funding it at higher levels every appropriations cycle.
The data center infrastructure backing AI development has already become a national security flashpoint, with prior attacks on facilities underscoring how critical the physical backbone of AI has become. Standing up a dedicated force signals the administration views AI not as a tech trend to monitor but as strategic terrain to hold.
Space Force was the punchline until it wasn't. AI Force will follow the same arc — mockery, then quiet imitation, then retroactive credit-claiming. The only question is which Democrat says "I supported this from the beginning" first.
Twenty-five percent of GDP. One new government body. Zero committees.
