Chuck Schumer Gets Booed at NYC Pride and the Video Is Exactly What You Think

Sen. Chuck Schumer marched in the NYC Pride Parade on Saturday. The crowd's response was not the one his advance team had in mind. Video circulating across social media shows New York's senior senator getting mercilessly booed as he walked the route — not by counter-protesters, not by conservatives with bullhorns, but by the parade's own attendees.

This was supposed to be a home game.

The NYC Pride March, held June 28 on the 57th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, wound its way from 26th Street and Fifth Avenue past the historic Stonewall Inn and concluded near 15th Street and Seventh Avenue. Governor Kathy Hochul and Mayor Zohran Mamdani were also in attendance. But it was Schumer — the Senate Minority Leader who has marched in the parade for over two decades — who drew the audible hostility from spectators lining the route, as reported by the New York Post.

Schumer has spent years cultivating his image as an ally to the LGBTQ community. He's attended the march reliably, posted the photos, issued the statements. The kind of politician who shows up when the cameras are rolling and the cause is polling well. For most of his career, that was enough.

It isn't anymore.

Democrats across the country are facing internal fractures that no amount of rainbow branding can paper over. The party's progressive base has grown increasingly hostile toward its own establishment figures — particularly those seen as insufficiently aggressive in opposing Republican legislative priorities or too willing to compromise on issues the base considers non-negotiable. Schumer, who has occupied the center lane of Democratic leadership for decades, now finds himself squeezed between a caucus that wants war and a political reality that won't cooperate.

Schumer's office has not publicly addressed the reception. That silence is its own kind of answer — there's no good spin for getting jeered by your own voters at an event you've attended for twenty-plus years. You can't blame Fox News for this one. You can't blame misinformation. The people who showed up to celebrate Pride looked at Chuck Schumer and decided he deserved to hear what they thought of him.

There's a version of this story where the takeaway is about Schumer specifically — his age, his record, his particular brand of calculated ambiguity on every issue that requires actual conviction. But the Pride crowd wasn't booing Chuck Schumer the individual. They were booing what he represents: a Democratic establishment that asks for loyalty every election cycle and delivers press conferences in return.

Twenty years of marching in the same parade, and the reception has gone from cheers to jeers. The route hasn't changed. The crowd has.
