The IRS Under Biden was Literally Auditing Pastors Based on Their Politics — And Now There’s Receipts

A brand-new DOJ report just confirmed what every conservative church-goer in America already knew in their bones: the IRS under President Biden was selectively enforcing the Johnson Amendment against conservative pastors while giving liberal clergy a free pass. Names, dates, case files — the whole thing. The deep state didn’t just come for your guns and your kids’ school curriculum. They came for your church.

But sure, we were all just “paranoid” for thinking the government was targeting us.

For those who need a refresher, the Johnson Amendment is a 1954 tax code provision that says tax-exempt organizations — including churches — can’t endorse or oppose political candidates. In theory, it applies to everyone equally. In practice? The IRS apparently kept a list, and wouldn’t you know it, the list was almost entirely made up of pastors who committed the unforgivable sin of being conservative.

We’re talking about pastors who preached about the sanctity of life from the pulpit. Pastors who told their congregations that marriage is between a man and a woman. Pastors who — brace yourselves — encouraged people to vote based on biblical values. The horror!

Meanwhile, every progressive megachurch pastor in America spent the last decade inviting Democrat politicians to speak from the pulpit, organizing “souls to the polls” voter drives that would make a DNC field organizer blush, and posting Instagram videos telling their followers to vote blue. Did the IRS come knocking? Take a wild guess.

The DOJ report lays it out in black and white. Conservative churches received audit notices, threatening letters, and in some cases had their tax-exempt status actively investigated — while liberal churches doing the exact same thing (and often doing it louder and more brazenly) sailed through without so much as a form letter.

This is the two-tiered justice system we’ve been screaming about happens again and again under Democrat leadership. WE first told you about it under President Obama and then under President Biden, except this time it wasn’t just courtrooms and FBI raids. They brought it inside the sanctuary.

Think about what that means for a second. A pastor in rural Georgia preaches a sermon about protecting the unborn, and six weeks later he gets a certified letter from the IRS demanding records. A pastor in Brooklyn literally has a sitting congresswoman address his congregation two Sundays before an election, and his mailbox stays empty. That’s not enforcement. That’s persecution.

And the beautiful part? This DOJ — unlike the last one — actually investigated it. That’s the difference between an administration that weaponizes federal agencies against its own citizens and one that shines a flashlight into the dark corners where the bureaucratic roaches have been hiding.

The Left is going to try to spin this as “old news” or “an isolated finding.” Don’t let them. This report has specific case numbers. It has the names of IRS agents who made targeting decisions. It has internal communications showing that enforcement priorities were shaped by the political leanings of the organizations being investigated.

That’s not a conspiracy theory. That’s a federal document.

You know what’s rich? These are the same people who lectured us for four years about “threats to democracy.” They spent every Sunday morning talk show wringing their hands about “norms” and “institutions” while their own tax collectors were shaking down houses of worship based on ideology.

(But we’re the authoritarians. Sure thing, folks.)

Here’s what needs to happen next. Every single IRS employee named in this report needs to be fired. Not reassigned, not given a sternly worded memo — fired. And every church that was wrongfully targeted deserves a formal apology and restitution for whatever legal costs they incurred defending themselves against a government that was supposed to leave them alone.

President Trump has already signaled he wants to repeal the Johnson Amendment entirely, and frankly, after this report, the case practically makes itself. If the government can’t enforce a law equally — and the DOJ just proved in writing that they didn’t — then the law has no business existing.

The deep state came for your pastor. They came for your Sunday sermon. They came for the one place in American life that’s supposed to be beyond the reach of petty political tyrants.

And now? Now there’s receipts. Every last one of them.
