The will of Americans is not being supported by Senate’s majority leader.
Despite recent polling data, that reveals most Americans hold a moderate approach to abortion, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is barreling forward anyway and will demand his fellow lawmakers to vote on legalizing abortion on the federal level.
Earlier this week, Schumer announced that Senators will vote on the Women’s Health Protection Act as early as Monday.
Side note: How is possible to write an entire bill codifying federal abortion rights in just one weekend?
This legislation “would enshrine abortion on demand and up-to-birth in federal law as well as void all state laws aimed at protecting the lives of the unborn.”
The announcement follows Schumer’s promise to hold a vote to make abortion a winning issue for Democrats come the midterm elections. “A vote on this legislation is not an abstract exercise,” Schumer said. “This is as urgent and real as it gets. We will vote to protect a woman’s right to choose, and every American is going to see which side every senator stands.”
The vote is likely to fail. Democrats hold 10 less seats needed than the required 60 votes needed to pass the legislation.
However, public polling suggests that America is not on board with the Democrats’ approach to all access abortion up until the time of birth. Half of the country tends to think the overturning of Roe v. Wade is not a pressing matter as the economy, according to polling data. Additionally, Americans are seemingly more concerned with inflation, the war in Ukraine, and other major events.
Only 47% of respondents support codifying Roe v. Wade and 53% of the electorate either oppose abortion legislation or have no opinion.
Chuck Schumer and the Democrats are wildly overestimating America’s concern with the abortion procedure. Most Americans (57%) believe that the 1973 Supreme Court ruling will in fact be overturned, with only 22% saying it will not. Of that 57%, a majority of respondents believe that Democrats should proceed with moderate, common-sense abortion laws.
Additional Rasmussen polling revealed a plurality of voters (48%) approve of overturning Roe. Only 45% disapprove.
The Senate is going to vote next week on the Women's Health Protection Act to codify a woman’s right to seek an abortion into federal law.
I will file cloture on this vital legislation Monday, and that will set up a vote Wednesday.
Americans will see where every senator stands.

Americans are highly skeptical of left-leaning abortion policies, according to the Republican National Committee. Seventy-one percent want significant limits on abortion. Seventy-seven percent support banning infanticide. Eighty percent believe third-trimester abortions should be illegal.
By a 20-point margin, Americans also oppose taxpayer-funded abortions.
As it stands, American taxpayers are currently footing the bill for abortions at home and abroad. Democrats are using involuntarily seized money to fund the widespread murder of unborn babies…
Let that sink in.
