According to an American journalist who owns an apartment in central Italy, an increasing number of Americans are preparing to leave the country as former President Trump makes his way back toward Washington.
Business Insider columnist Paul Starobin wrote, “If Trump is brought back, American citizens are planning to emigrate in droves,” describing the conversations taking place on a Facebook page for American immigrants in Italy:
“Yes, it’s real! This is from a Montana woman who was considering relocating to Tuscany. Compared to US rates, I paid a song for a hilltop village house that I purchased. no longer desire to be in the US. It’s costly, and I’m tired of all the shootings and political garbage.
“An uprising by a narcissist who could not accept losing an election, together with his abortion and gun policies, made relocation more of a need than a fantasy,” said a lady from Texas.
The author is a seasoned journalist, therefore, he doesn’t believe the apocalyptic rhetoric coming from his social peers:
Every four years, as citizens prepare to elect a new president, there is discussion about leaving the nation, mostly among Democrats. If undesirable candidate X wins, I’m leaving for Canada! And the expected exodus does not happen every four years. For the most part, it’s just therapeutic venting.”
However, this is different, he added, partly because media sources that comfortable Americans read are raising concerns about Trump’s strategy.
The anti-Trump pieces in The Atlantic can be frightening for those who prefer to believe in liberalism.
Pro-immigration writer Ron Brownstein stated in the January/February edition that “Trump has warned that in a 2nd presidential term, he will further accelerate his attack on blue America.”
Author Caitlin Dickerson expressed concern that “restoring Trump will rekindle wounds just now starting to heal in the [illegal immigration] communities he has vowed he would go after immediately.”
Spencer Kornhaber expressed concern, saying, “He doesn’t simply want to miseducate, surveil, and oppress youngsters who are exploring their nascent [transgender] identities.” “He wants to take away the liberties that any pluralistic society should uphold, interfering in the lives of millions of people.”
