It’s not just the border that’s at stake here… Only the border with Mexico. It is also related to Native American tribal grounds.
According to The Hill:
“The United States Bureau of Reclamation stated in a letter on Friday that some of the double-stacked cargo containers were on its land and the Cocopah Indian Tribe’s West Reservation without permission, breaching federal statute and constituting trespassing.”
“The agency demanded that the state start removing the 80 cargo containers on its properties around Morelos Dam, as well as another 42 containers on native territories, and that new containers not be added to government or Indian trust areas.”
The Agency of Reclamation stated that US Customs and Border Security has given a contract to secure two gaps on its land in areas around the dam and expects to award another contract to secure two more gaps in the area and that it has demanded that the containers be removed so that the project can proceed “without unnecessary delay.”
While breaking federal statute and trespassing may both be severe offenses, so is the national security dangers posed by a weak, unsecured border that has seen millions of immigrant interactions and hundreds of thousands of “gotaways” – those who have eluded US border control.
The Biden admin. has long clashed with border states like AZ and TX, which bear the brunt of the consequences of the illegal immigration problem. As the border is flooded and immigrants either flee or are relocated by the federal govt., many towns and cities near the border are overwhelmed and unable to cope with the influx.
The problem in Arizona might have been avoided if the Biden team had enforced the border in the first place, but states have already taken a variety of tactics to increase awareness while simultaneously seeking to secure the border on their own – with little assistance from the Biden government. That this particular action, placing cargo containers in the breaches of the wall, is the fault of the Biden admin., which was elected so opposed to the Trump govt’s very existence that they attempted to destroy everything the prior administration did.
As a result, America has gone from a country that was fighting to secure its border to a country that has neglected it.
While it is natural that indigenous communities do not want state governments working on their property without authorization, the difficulty for everybody involved is the security and economic danger created by people crossing the border freely and wandering off into American territory unchallenged.
That is an emergency situation that must be addressed as quickly as feasible.
