Under their new majority, House Republicans plan to look into President Joe Biden’s relationships with foreign business partners, according to James Comer, head of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, who made the announcement on Sunday.
Republican Kentucky Rep. Comer stated on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that the committee, which was renamed from the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, would also hold hearings on “Biden family influence peddling” as well as look specifically into the president’s position in Hunter Biden’s international business dealings.
“I believe that any American who has followed the political landscape for the past two administrations would concur. When it comes to foreign antagonistic interference involving family members of American presidents, we need to recognize what is and isn’t acceptable,” Comer continued.
Joe Biden has frequently seen his son’s business meetings from the outside, including ones with Chinese, Ukrainian, and Kazakh businesses. He has denied his knowledge of the business operations on numerous occasions, claiming that he has “never spoken” to his son “about his offshore business dealings.”
While his father served as vice president, Hunter Biden frequently traveled to Mexico, and messages from the laptop he left behind in Delaware in 2019 mention Joe Biden. The president is traveling to Mexico for the first time while in office and will be there till Tuesday.
Comer stated on “Meet the Press” that he would use the communications on the laptop as evidence.
“There are emails and texts that show Hunter Biden whining about having to spend so much money trying to keep his dad up, according to the evidence. I mean, that’s concerning because Hunter Biden’s sole source of money was from buying influence from our rivals in China and Russia,” Comer added.
“So we should investigate this, I think. It’s not political at all. Are the president’s claims that he didn’t have any knowledge or involvement of his family’s dubious business practices true? We’ll continue once we’ve established that,” he added.
According to a source close to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, House Republicans “will want answers whether they like it or not” and would investigate into “banks and other financial institutions, and business partners that were misled or scammed by the Bidens.”
