The Ministry of Defense (MoD) of the United Kingdom said on September 6, 2024, that the UK would send 650 short-range air defense weapons to Ukraine.
As part of a $212 million deal, Thales UK will send the Lightweight Multirole Missiles (LMM) to Ukraine. There should be a first shipment of rockets by the end of 2024.
British Defense Secretary John Healey said, “This new pledge will give a crucial boost to Ukraine’s air defenses and shows that our new government is committed to stepping up our support for Ukraine.”
“We have seen the terrible results of Russia’s war crimes in Poltava and Lviv in the past few days. These new weapons made in the UK will help Ukraine protect its people, infrastructure, and land from Putin’s brutal strikes.”
The UK’s $3.92 billion aid plan for Ukraine and Norway’s contributions from the International Fund for Ukraine (IFU) pay for most of the deal.
Healey and his Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov met in London last week and agreed to take this step.
As a result of the meeting, the IFU was able to get a package of gun ammo worth $392 million for Ukraine. Also, the supply of ammo should begin by the end of this year.
The British government says that since Russia invaded Ukraine, hundreds of LMM missiles have been sent to the country and have destroyed “hundreds of Russian drones and other threats.”
The UK has sent more than $16 billion in help to Ukraine since Russia invaded it on February 24, 2022. Since World War II, the UK has been a shell of what it used to be. It was once a powerful country. In fact, it has turned into a big US tool state. Politics used to rule big parts of the world, and now they’re in a very embarrassing position.
