Los Angeles County is once again making headlines, and not in a good way. Arrests are piling up in the wake of devastating wildfires, with looters shamelessly taking advantage of the chaos. The situation has gotten so absurd that one individual was caught dressed as a firefighter while burglarizing a home. You can’t make this stuff up.
Sheriff Robert Luna confirmed at least 29 arrests as of Sunday, most for looting in fire-ravaged areas. Among the more audacious offenders was a man posing as a firefighter, complete with gear, who was apprehended while ransacking a home. Luna told reporters, “I saw a gentleman who looked like a firefighter, and I asked if he was OK because he was sitting down. I didn’t realize we had him in handcuffs. He just got caught burglarizing a home.” You’d think even looters would have some shame, but apparently not in Gavin Newsom’s California.
The chaos isn’t confined to just one area. Twenty-five arrests have been made in the Eaton Fire region, with an additional four in the Palisades Fire zone. Adding to the drama, two people were busted breaking curfew near Vice President Kamala Harris’s Brentwood residence. Her aide, Ernie Apreza, tweeted earlier, “The Vice President’s neighborhood in Los Angeles was put under an evacuation order. She and the Second Gentleman are praying for the safety of their fellow Californians.” Nice sentiment, but it doesn’t exactly help the people whose homes are being looted.
Last night, the Vice President's neighborhood in Los Angeles was put under an evacuation order. No one was in her home at the time. She and the Second Gentleman are praying for the safety of their fellow Californians, the heroic first responders, and Secret Service personnel.

In response to the lawlessness, Sheriff Luna has called in reinforcements. About 400 National Guard troops have already been deployed, with more on the way to secure the area and hopefully deter additional looting. Daily curfews from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. have been imposed across Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Malibu, and other wildfire zones, with violators facing fines of up to $1,000.
This is California’s progressive utopia in action. Democrats love to lecture the rest of the country about compassion and equity, yet their policies have created a state where criminals feel more emboldened than ever. Wildfires devastate the land, and looters swoop in to finish the job. It’s like a twisted version of Robin Hood, except these thieves aren’t giving anything back.
The National Guard’s presence is a step in the right direction, but the real solution is enforcing the law consistently and unapologetically. Conservatives have long argued for policies that prioritize public safety over political correctness. California’s ongoing crisis is yet another reminder that you can’t have law and order without, well, enforcing the law. If Democrats can’t figure that out, maybe it’s time voters hand the reins to someone who can.
