Red-States Get A New Election-Deciding Power

Josh Hawley, a senator from Missouri, filed a measure on September 27, 2022, which would give individual states the authority to enforce federal immigration rules, including the deportation of illegal aliens.Hawley wants the US to “take the gloves off” when it comes to tackling illegal immigration.

In accordance with the “Empowering States to Deport Illegal Immigrants Act,” local and state police officials would have the authority to enforce specific federal immigration laws. This legislation was proposed at a time when the Biden administration is making every effort to weaken border security.

The legislation would basically overturn a Supreme Court ruling from 2012 that severely restricted states’ power to enforce immigration laws.

The purpose of Hawley’s measure is to provide states the authority to use their own resources to enforce immigration laws.

For starters, it would give state prosecutors the authority to bring legal actions against individuals who violate federal immigration laws. States would also have the authority to remove unauthorized immigrants. Particularly border states would be permitted to take action to reinforce the boundary.

Republicans have emphasized that there have been more than 2.1 million interactions in this fiscal year, according to a Fox News report. A significant portion of these incidents winds up being released inside the US. Additionally, it is believed that over 500,000 “getaways” have entered the US.

The decision made by the Biden administration to roll back Trump-era border controls and drastically scale back internal immigration enforcement procedures has been a major factor in the current migrant influx at the southern border.

“Then why not just let the states enforce immigration laws if Biden is not going to enforce immigration laws?”

Hawley said last week during a discussion of his legislation on “The Ingraham Angle, the states of Texas, Florida, and Arizona would all love to enforce immigration laws. Let them secure the border and expel illegal immigrants in accordance with our laws. Let them do it.”

The Missouri senator said, “Let’s take the gloves off about this, let’s execute the law, let’s restore law and order to the border.”

At a time when the federal government has been visibly negligent in enforcing immigration rules, red state elected leaders have recently started to embrace measures like Hawley’s legislation. While Florida dispatched many illegal aliens to Martha’s Vineyard, Texas has already begun Operation Lone Star.

The states will have to fill this power vacuum in order to secure the country’s sovereignty and preserve its national character, given how disengaged DC has grown on the immigration issue.
