Attorney General of West Virginia Patrick Morrisey is requesting that the Dept. of Justice (DOJ) transfer the “politicized case” against former President Trump pertaining to the Capitol riot from Washington, DC to West Virginia because he believes he won’t get a fair trial there.
Morrisey, a candidate for governor in West Virginia, posted the statement on the social networking site “X,” formerly known as Twitter, this week. “Donald Trump isn’t going to be given a fair shake in DC, which is the heart of the Swamp,” he said.
He said, “If prosecutors persist on pursuing this politically charged case, they should change the place of proceedings to West Virginia. West Virginians refuse to support double standards of justice and recognize the importance of upholding the rule of law.”
Trump will be charged on four counts, including conspiracy to deceive the United States, conspiracy in opposition to rights, conspiracy to hinder an official proceeding, as well as obstruction of and trying to impede an official proceeding, this week in the nation’s capital inside the Elijah Barret Prettyman Federal Courthouse.
Trump demanded that the case be transferred to West Virginia, this week, claiming that it would be “IMPOSSIBLE” to have an impartial trial in Washington, D.C.
“Hopefully, the most recent fake ‘case’ brought by corrupt Joe Biden and insane Jack Smith will be transferred to a neutral location, like the politically neutral neighboring State of West Virginia! In Washington, D.C., where the population is over 95% anti-Trump, it’s virtually IMPOSSIBLE to receive a fair trial. For this reason, I have advocated for a federal TAKEOVER to restore greatness to our nation’s capital. Today, rising crime is embarrassing to our country and, in fact, the entire world. Election interference is the main subject of this indictment.”
Three indictments against Trump have been filed recently; this newest one is the second from Special Prosecutor Jack Smith. Trump is being investigated by the DOJ under Attorney General Merrick Garland for allegedly handling classified materials improperly in the Southern District of Florida, while he is being investigated by Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg for allegedly engaging in corporate fraud on a state level in New York.
Legal experts have closely examined Bragg’s case, including Jonathan Turley of George Washington University School of Law stating that it “could collapse” prior to trial.
Similar worries about getting a fair trial in New York have been voiced by Trump, and a YouGov survey found that 40% of Americans believe he “cannot receive a fair trial from New York.”
