It comes as no shock to anyone paying attention that the freest state in the nation happens to be governed by Republicans — and America First Republicans at that!
Republican leaders tend to make daily life cheaper and more efficient, simply proven by the economic conditions during GOP administrations. In just four years Donald Trump totally overhauled the U.S. economy while slashing taxes for nearly every American. He oversaw a record increase in U.S. energy production and, still, our lakes and oceans were never cleaner!
Trump bolstered the U.S. military yet spent less than Biden. He managed to keep America afloat amidst an unprecedented global pandemic and ensured widespread access to FDA-approved vaccines — yet vowed not to discriminate against those who refused them.
And who was by Donald Trump’s side throughout his entire tenure? Who was the governor so heavily inspired by America First policies that he lead his state out of a global pandemic while ensuring economic and medical freedom?
Governor Ron DeSantis, that’s who!
Florida ranks number one in fiscal and economic freedom and takes second place for freedom in the U.S. overall, according to the CATO Institute’s index measuring personal and economic freedom.

Florida surpasses the 49 remaining states in many categories, particularly related to government spending and taxation.
Government consumption in Florida is well below the national average, as is government employment. Residents are not forced to pay state income taxes while also enjoying very low levels of tax collection or tax interference.

The state’s personal freedom score has increased exponentially as well, jumping from #37 to #2 in under a decade.
Florida took on a libertarian approach to social freedoms by nationalizing same-sex marriage while also ensuring unregulated Second Amendment freedoms. School choice and freedom from left-wing indoctrination by teachers were also major accomplishments for the DeSantis administration.
Floridians also boasted unprecedented freedom from Dr. Fauci’s pseudoscientific approach to the China Virus pandemic. Gov. DeSantis was reluctant to shut down businesses both big and small, choosing instead to allow the people of Florida to make their own choices.
The question remains whether DeSantis will throw his hat in the 2024 ring. His rivalry with Former President Donald Trump has been wildly exaggerated in the press; however, recent polling does suggest that the America First governor is gaining on his mentor.
