CNN released the findings of its most recent presidential tracking poll over the weekend. The survey indicated that not only did Trump have a clear lead in the race for the White House, but also that the majority of Americans thought his presidency had been successful.
According to CNN:
“In a head-to-head contest versus Biden, Trump’s support among registered voters remains stable at 49%, the same as in CNN’s most recent national survey on the race in January, while Biden’s standing is at 43%, not much different from January’s 45%.”
“Now that the election is over, 55% of Americans say they think Trump’s administration was successful, while 44% think it was a disaster. Five-fifths of respondents to a January 2021 survey conducted just before Trump’s resignation and a few days following the January 6 attack on the US Capitol said he was a failure as president.
When independent candidates Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Cornel West, and Jill Stein enter the race, Trump leads Biden 42% to 33% among all voters. Kennedy is at 16%, West is at 4%, and Stein is at 3%. Kennedy receives 13% from each of Biden’s and Trump’s supporters in the first two-way contest.”
61% of respondents who have evaluated Biden’s term in office thus far believe it has been a failure, while 39% believe it has been a success. “That is somewhat worse than the 57% who declared January 2022 to be a disaster and the 41% who declared it a success during the first year of his term.”
These results did not sit well with Acosta, who stated that considering the number of deaths from the COVID-19 epidemic and the Capitol intrusion on January 6, he thought it “incredible” that some voters had positive memories of Trump’s administration.
Acosta stated, “The second finding of that survey is that a significant portion of Americans see Donald Trump’s administration as a success, which is remarkable considering that COVID killed a million people.”
Political analyst Alice Stewart of CNN commented, “According to this survey, Donald Trump would walk from the courthouse to the White House if the election were conducted today.” “No inquiries were made.”
Acosta shot back, saying, “[Trump’s] administration ended with an insurrection at the Capitol.” “Maria, what is the reason for the Democrats’ inability to overcome people’s short-term memory and convey that message to them?”
Acosta has a contentious relationship with Trump dating back to his presidency. Despite frequently endorsing the Biden administration, Acosta tries to portray himself as an unbiased journalist.
Acosta voiced similar confusion over Americans’ unwillingness to recognize the purported achievements of Joe Biden’s economic strategy in December.
“My concern is whether inflation is decreasing.” He added at the time, “I mean, if you look at petrol costs, they are coming down.” In the Maryland or Virginia areas near Washington, D.C., they cost about three dollars per gallon. I believe it varies across the country based on one’s location, but it is typically declining. “Not enough people are feeling it yet.”
