Vice President JD Vance delivered a blunt assessment of the border crisis in Eagle Pass, Texas, making it clear that while President Trump’s policies are working, there’s still a long road ahead to fully undo the damage left by the Biden-Harris open border disaster.
“Rome wasn’t built in a day,” Vance said, acknowledging the deep destruction of America’s immigration enforcement under Biden. “President Biden gutted the entire immigration enforcement machine of this country. We are trying to rebuild so that we actually empower people to enforce the immigration laws.”
Vance was joined in South Texas by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, where they met with Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Border Patrol agents, and local leaders to discuss progress and remaining challenges.
One of the biggest victories? Illegal crossings have plummeted from a staggering 10,000 per day under Biden to just 300 per day under Trump—a 97% reduction. Border towns ravaged by Biden’s failure are finally seeing relief. Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX), whose district includes key border communities, praised Trump’s America First leadership, saying, “Overnight, communities along the border like Eagle Pass, Del Rio, and El Paso are now safer due to common-sense border policy changes by the White House.”
But there’s more work to do, and Vance made it clear that deportations will continue expanding. “This costs money,” he said, explaining that tax reform is a key part of ensuring funds are available to remove illegal migrants.
The most disturbing revelation came from Director Gabbard, who confirmed that an ISIS-affiliated smuggling network took advantage of Biden’s open border to sneak thousands of potential terrorists into America. Many were arrested in 2024, but thanks to Biden’s disastrous policies, only eight were deported or detained. The rest? Released into the U.S.. “Where are they? What are they doing? What may they be plotting?” Gabbard warned.
President Trump isn’t just securing the border—he’s taking the fight to Mexico and Canada, too. His tariffs on both nations are designed to force them to crack down on cartel-fueled fentanyl smuggling. Vance explained that Mexico must choose: take out the cartels or become a full-blown narco-state. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum is already fuming, announcing retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods.
The message is clear: Trump is putting America first, securing the border, and holding corrupt foreign governments accountable. And he’s only just begun.
Blaze National Correspondent @Julio_Rosas11: "A lot of attention has been turned to the Interior, what is in your opinion the biggest obstacle to actually carrying out President Trump's mass deportations?"
