This week, the U.S. Army issued a 14-page internal directive requiring commanders to update all personnel records of transgender service members, reflecting their biological sex at birth only, according to a recent Newsweek report.
“Commanders will take immediate measures to update personnel records and administrative systems to reflect biological sex for all individuals,” the memo explicitly states. In simple terms, the Army, under the leadership of President Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, is rolling back the radical gender ideology that had infiltrated our armed forces during the Biden years.
This new directive underscores the administration’s firm belief that the military is not a social experiment, but a fighting force whose effectiveness depends on clarity, cohesion, and discipline. In line with the February 26 Pentagon directive, the Army memo emphasizes that a person’s sex is “unchanging during a person’s life,” reflecting biological reality rather than politically motivated activism.
The memo also provides clear guidance on pronoun use, insisting that they “must reflect biological sex,” and reinstates traditional military salutations such as “sir” and “ma’am,” deemed essential for maintaining good order and discipline. Shared intimate spaces, such as showers and locker rooms, must now be clearly labeled as male, female, or family use, with access strictly determined by biological sex. These common-sense measures are a welcome return to normalcy after years of confusion and politically correct mandates under Biden.
The Army’s directive also signals broader changes underway, including revoking taxpayer-funded gender-affirming healthcare and setting a June 6 deadline for transgender troops to voluntarily leave military service or face separation. According to military data, there are at least 4,240 active-duty and National Guard transgender service members, although advocacy groups suggest the actual number could be higher.
Predictably, progressive activists are outraged, calling the policy “vindictive and aggressive.” Jennifer Levi, senior director at GLAD Law, an LGBTQ advocacy group, even claimed the directive was issued in “a chaotic way that undoubtedly is harming military readiness.” But let’s be clear: the chaos and harm to readiness occurred under Biden’s administration, which prioritized woke ideology over military preparedness. The Trump administration is merely cleaning up that mess.
Public opinion, too, is shifting. A recent Gallup poll indicates support for transgender individuals serving openly in the military has declined significantly, from 71 percent in 2019 to 58 percent this year. Americans are realizing that military effectiveness should never be compromised to satisfy ideological agendas.
The new policy reflects President Trump’s America First commitment to a military focused entirely on readiness, discipline, and strength. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, a former Fox News host and combat veteran, has consistently opposed diversity initiatives that dilute the military’s primary mission. As Hegseth himself has stated, “Our military exists to fight and win wars, not to serve as a platform for social experimentation.”
