Harvard and Columbia, two institutions once synonymous with excellence, have tragically transformed into bastions of woke extremism and ideological conformity. It’s clear that these universities are incapable of reforming themselves—a firm government response is both necessary and justified.
When Harvard embraced Hamas sympathizers and Columbia tolerated hateful antisemitism, they didn’t just abandon decency—they abandoned their fundamental purpose of education. Elite schools now routinely churn out graduates indoctrinated to despise America, capitalism, and Western civilization itself, all while saddling them with crushing debt. Rather than equipping students with real-world skills, these campuses have become taxpayer-subsidized centers for leftist indoctrination.
President Trump and his administration have signaled they recognize the severity of this crisis. Their plan to put Harvard and Columbia under federal scrutiny and potentially receivership is not just bold; it’s essential. Brian T. Allen of National Review was right when he argued, back in January 2024, that receivership was the only solution for Harvard. “Harvard and Columbia are, in effect, headed for a time under both the federal microscope and the federal axe, if the Trump people are serious and know what they’re doing,” Allen recently wrote.
The rot isn’t just a problem at two universities—it’s nationwide. Our colleges have ballooned administrative staff, hired diversity bureaucrats by the hundreds, and erected kangaroo courts that trample the due process rights of students accused of politically incorrect “thought crimes.” These bloated staffs not only drive tuition costs sky-high but actively undermine free thought, free speech, and intellectual rigor. Taxpayers subsidize this disgrace through billions in federal grants and loans, effectively underwriting the radicalization of America’s youth.
Enough is enough. Conservatives should enthusiastically back President Trump’s initiative to defund institutions that refuse reform and accountability. Cutting off federal funding to universities promoting antisemitism, radical Marxism, or hatred for America isn’t censorship—it’s responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars. If these institutions refuse to uphold basic standards of decency, patriotism, and academic freedom, they should not receive a dime of public money.
Beyond fiscal measures, we must aggressively pursue policy reforms that dismantle the diversity, equity, and inclusion industry on campuses. This entrenched bureaucracy has metastasized into a destructive force, enforcing ideological conformity and silencing dissent. Eliminating federal incentives for DEI bureaucracies would starve the beast and force universities to refocus on genuine education rather than indoctrination.
We also need to support initiatives that encourage competition in higher education, promoting trade schools, apprenticeships, and alternative credentialing programs. President Trump has consistently championed American manufacturing revival and workforce training. Expanding these options reduces dependency on ideologically compromised universities and provides young Americans with practical, patriotic pathways to prosperity.
Today’s universities have betrayed their mission, abandoning education in favor of activism. The result? Graduates ill-prepared for the workforce, indoctrinated in divisive ideologies, and burdened with debt. We can’t tolerate this for another generation. President Trump’s robust response—placing troubled institutions under federal oversight, defunding ideological fanaticism, and promoting alternatives—is exactly the kind of decisive action Americans voted for.
The battle for America’s campuses is nothing less than a fight for the soul of our country.
