After Robert De Niro showed up for a Biden campaign rally outside the Manhattan courthouse where Trump’s hush-money trial was continuing this week, former President Donald Trump referred to the actor as a “Wacko”.
Speaking to the media from behind a podium in New York following an invitation from Team Biden, De Niro declared that American liberties “will perish from the Earth” in the event that Trump prevails in November.
“This form of governance will disappear from the face of the earth under Trump. I am not trying to frighten you. No, no, hold on; perhaps I’m trying to frighten you. You may enjoy these liberties, which we all take for granted, but farewell if Trump takes the White House back,” De Niro stated. “And elections? Put them out of your mind. That is finished; it is over. I promise you that once he is in, he will not come out. He’ll never leave. You know that.
“We do not have a choice,” De Niro, 80, continued, but to support Biden “to maintain our freedoms and hold on to our humanity.”
Trump commented on Truth Social about the De Niro news conference, saying that the actor “looked so miserable and sad out there.”
“I was unaware of Robert De Niro’s mental and physical limitations,” said the former actor. “Today, outside the Courthouse, De Niro—who has an incurable case of TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, or TDS as it is well known in the medical community—was faced by a force far larger than the Radical Left – MAGA,” Trump said. “Robert looked so pitiful and depressed out there. His movies, artistic ability, and brand have all drastically decreased in value since he entered politics at Crooked Joe Biden’s suggestion. Joe DiMaggio, where have you disappeared?
According to POLITICO, the actor also conversed with a few of Trump’s admirers who were present outside the courthouse on Tuesday.
“You guys are thugs!” One man apparently told De Niro he was “washed up” in response to his yell.
“Get over it!” In reply, De Niro shouted.
The De Niro-hosted press conference signals a sharpening of the Biden campaign’s attention to Trump’s ongoing criminal trial and may offer a sneak peek at a new approach as the trial draws to a close. Although the president has said little about Trump’s hush-money case during the campaign, a POLITICO story from last week quoted “four people familiar with internal discussions” in the Biden administration, indicating that the president intends to speak about the trial from the White House following the jury’s decision.
With Trump leading the president in the majority of polls, including those in all seven battleground states, the Biden campaign appears to be changing its approach. This is evident from the polling average that RealClearPolitics ascertained as of this Wednesday morning.
Trump advisor Jason Miller stated, “President Trump’s numbers continue to rise, and the best Joe Biden can do is roll out a washed-out actor.”
