After her leftist colleagues “crucified” her for supporting school choice, a Georgia Democrat state legislator said that she is switching parties. She added that the Democrat Party has “gotten away with using and abusing the black community.”
Following a turbulent relationship with her colleagues, state representative Mesha Mainor, who represents District 56 in the Peach State, declared this week that she is formally changing her party affiliation from Democrat to Republican.
“Today I choose to leave the Democratic Party. This was not a political choice for me because I am an Atlanta city council member for a blue district.” In a social media post, she claimed that “it was a MORAL one.”
She went on to say, “I will never say I’m sorry for being a black woman and having a mind of my own.”
“When I made the decision to speak up on behalf of kids with disadvantages by promoting school choice, my Democrat colleagues did not stand by me,” Mainor claimed in an interview with Fox News Digital, adding that her Democratic coworkers “crucified” her for doing so and for opposing moves to defund the police. She claimed to have always been the kind of public servant who would “work across the aisle to deliver results for my community and the people I was elected to represent.” However, her communist colleagues did not back her.
She reiterated that her choice to quit the Democratic Party is not political but moral in nature, saying, “They abandoned me.”
“The black community has been exploited and abused by the Democratic Party for far too long,” according to Mainor.
“Over 90% of the black population has supported the Democrat Party for many years. And what are the results that we can see? I am an Atlanta city council member for a firmly blue district. For me, this is not a political choice. It has to do with morality,” she added.
The decision was long overdue, as Mainor revealed in a video she broadcast in May that she was “in the crosshairs of my Democratic caucus in the Georgia House of Representatives.” Mainor stated in the caption that “the Democratic Party Establishment is looking to take me out.”
“I represent a district that is firmly blue and quite diverse. Additionally, I’ve never hesitated and won’t ever hesitate to vote in favor of the communities I serve over party politics,” she added.
