Who even needs Democrats when the party of supposed ‘Second Amendment absolutism’ will so easily and willingly throw in the towel and support unlawful gun restrictions?
At the exact moment when Republicans needed to show unity and fortitude on the Second Amendment issue, at the exact time when Democrats are ramping up their efforts to disarm Americans, the GOP folds its cards.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell offered his support Tuesday to a bipartisan agreement on legislation to combat gun violence, saying he is “comfortable” with the announced framework.
“If the legislation ends up reflecting what the framework indicates, I’ll be supporting it,” McConnell said.

On Sunday, Senate negotiators including Sens. Chris Murphy (D-CT) and John Cornyn (R-TX) announced they had reached a framework for the yet-to-be-written legislation, which they said will include funding to help states create and implement red flag laws, additional mental health and school safety resources, and closing the so-called boyfriend loophole, a gap in federal law barring spouses, but not dating partners, convicted of domestic abuse from gun ownership.
McConnell had previously indicated that he supported Cornyn’s involvement in the negotiations, but in remarks to reporters Tuesday, he backed the deal Cornyn helped reach.
This would make him the eleventh Republican to support Democrats’ gun restrictions.
The other ten RINO Senators willing to destroy Second Amendment rights for law-abiding citizens include:
Sens. Thom Tillis, Roy Blunt, Richard Burr, Bill Cassidy, Susan Collins, Lindsey Graham, Rob Portman, Mitt Romney, Pat Toomey, and Cornyn.
Their support would allow matching legislation to clear the Senate’s 60-vote filibuster threshold.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi indicated her willingness to pass the bill in the House, although it is much more narrow than gun violence legislation recently passed in that chamber. Joe Biden also announced his support of the deal but noted it didn’t restrict the Second Amendment enough.
Support from McConnell, the Senate’s top Republican, may lead to additional GOP support for the legislation in the Senate once it is written.
Once again, the Republicans prove they have no clue when to fight the good fight.
As devastating as the Uvalde school shooting may be, it does not permit D.C. politicians the right to squabble over our civil liberties granted to us in the U.S. Constitution.
Talk about a slippery slope!
