Another taxpayer-funded green energy project bites the dust. The Ivanpah Solar Power Facility, a $1.6 billion boondoggle funded by Obama’s Department of Energy, is on track to shut down after failing to deliver on its grand promises.
Another Green Energy Fraud Goes Up in Smoke
Back in 2011, the Obama administration handed out billions for so-called clean energy solutions, with then-Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz touting Ivanpah as proof of America’s green energy dominance.
But just like Solyndra, another Obama-era green energy scam that burned through $535 million before going bankrupt, Ivanpah never lived up to the hype.
“Ivanpah is yet another failed green energy boondoggle,” said Jason Isaac, CEO of the American Energy Institute. “It produced less electricity than expected while still relying on natural gas to keep the plant running.”
Even Environmentalists Admit It Was a Disaster
The liberal environmental group Sierra Club didn’t hold back on Ivanpah’s environmental destruction, either.
“The Ivanpah plant was a financial boondoggle and environmental disaster,” said Sierra Club’s Julia Dowell.
Along with killing thousands of birds and tortoises, the plant destroyed irreplaceable desert habitat and rare plant species—all while being hailed as the future of clean energy.
Contracts Canceled, Plant Facing Shutdown
Ivanpah’s largest buyer, Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E), pulled the plug on its power contracts 14 years early, stating that keeping the agreements through 2039 would cost customers too much money.
That means one thing: Ivanpah is on the path to closure.
Trump’s America First Energy Plan Ends the Madness
Energy expert Steve Milloy, a former Trump EPA transition team member, warned that even bigger taxpayer-funded disasters are coming thanks to Biden and the Democrats’ radical Green New Scam.
“Green projects have a long history of expensive taxpayer-subsidized disaster,” Milloy said. “It’s important that President Trump stop the taxpayer bleeding by ending this madness.”
With Trump back in office, expect an end to taxpayer-funded green energy fraud—and a return to policies that actually work.
