In a speech this week at the Hudson Institute, former U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley disclosed her intention to support former President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential contest.
Haley stated during her address, “I base my goals on a president who will stand by our friends and hold our adversaries accountable. There would be no more excuses for guarding the border. The president would uphold freedom and capitalism. He is a president who understands the importance of reducing debt instead of increasing it. It has become very clear that Trump has not been flawless on these policies. Again and again, Biden has been a disaster. Thus, I am going to vote for Trump.”
Haley went on to say that she was sticking to her “suspension speech” remarks.
Haley continued, “Trump would be wise to go out to the millions of people who supported me and voted for me. And I sincerely hope he does that and does not assume that they are just going to be with him.”
The former governor of South Carolina withdrew from the Republican primary on March 6 following a string of defeats.
While acknowledging that Trump would probably “be the Republican nominee when” the GOP Party convened its convention in July, Haley refrained from endorsing him at the time.
Given his legal troubles, Haley has previously said that choosing Trump for president of the United States “is like suicide.”
