Because the dramatic and newly released footage of the Capitol riot that Fox News aired on Monday has undermined their Jan. 6 narrative, Ben Shapiro stated Wednesday that Democrats and the liberal media are working to have Tucker Carlson fired.
The most popular program on the cable news network, “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” broadcast footage on Monday night of individuals, including purported “QAnon Shaman” Jacob Chansley, strolling calmly inside the structure as police stood around indifferently. Shapiro, a best-selling author and co-founder of Daily Wire, said on his podcast that the footage raises concerns about how the riots have been reported in the media.
“Tucker’s actions undermined the kind of story that he was sprinting through the corridors of the Capitol building, knocking people down and bashing their brains out in order to gain entry to the main room of the Capitol, sit behind the desk and afterwards hang from the ceiling,” Shapiro said.
Shapiro has frequently denounced the unrest and stated that the main demand of the demonstrators and rioters, that then-Vice President Mike Pence could prevent Joe Biden’s election victory from being validated, never had any legal support. Shapiro emphasized that point on Wednesday, saying that while he didn’t entirely concur with Carlson’s account of what happened, the new video contradicts the conventional wisdom. This has led to requests to cancel Carlson, he claimed.
According to the report, “the events of January 6 were the worst thing to ever happen to the United States, at least since the Civil War, Shapiro added. They must reject all of the video evidence Tucker presented and claim that it was a terrible mistake for Tucker to have made it public in the first place in order to keep their point of view.”
Officials from the Capitol Police stated on Tuesday that the footage Carlson’s show aired was misrepresented and that the officers visible near Chansley were attempting to defuse a potentially deadly situation. Chuck Schumer, the leader of the Senate majority, demanded that Rupert Murdoch, the owner of Fox News, take Carlson off the broadcast from the Senate floor, and reporters from numerous outlets pursued House Speaker Kevin McCarthy for granting Carlson’s crew access to the tape.
“You therefore must stop Tucker,” Shapiro said. “And since he doesn’t like the way Tucker Carlson presents the video, the Senate Majority Leader has literally called for a shutdown of the show. Is Tucker a partisan now? Tucker is partisan, you can bet your ass. I’m not convinced he’s been keeping quiet about this.”
