MSM’s Anti-Trump ‘Bombshell’ Just Backfired Hard

The Atlantic thought it had a bombshell. Instead, it blew up in their face.

On Wednesday, the left-wing publication published what it called “attack plans” leaked from a Signal text chain among senior members of President Trump’s national security team. The story accused Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and Vice President JD Vance of endangering national security by texting operational details of impending airstrikes in Yemen. But there’s just one problem: there was no actual classified information, no real war plans, and no danger to anyone.

The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, was inadvertently added to the Signal chat, and in a rush to turn a casual update thread into the next Pentagon Papers, he ran headfirst into a wall of facts. The so-called “plans” included time stamps for aircraft takeoffs, vague references to weather, and an assertion that everything was “clean on OPSEC.” No target names, no coordinates, no operational methods, and no classified material. Yet Goldberg and his team tried to spin it into a scandal of historic proportions.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth didn’t mince words in his response: “No names. No targets. No locations. No units. No routes. No sources. No methods. And no classified information. Those are some really s—- war plans. This only proves one thing: Jeff Goldberg has never seen a war plan.”

That sums it up. The Atlantic, in its desperation to generate a Trump-era crisis, exposed its own ignorance of military protocol and national security norms. Worse yet, it exposed just how far the media is willing to go to smear this administration.

Vice President JD Vance dismissed the piece as “oversold nonsense,” while Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard testified under oath that no classified material was exchanged. Even the CIA, which took issue with a staffer’s name being included in the texts, conceded that it was Trump appointee John Ratcliffe’s chief of staff—not a covert operative.

Still, Democrats couldn’t help themselves. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries rushed to demand Hegseth’s resignation, parroting the baseless claim that the texts endangered lives and violated the law. What law? What lives? No answer. Just the same tired talking points from a party that lost touch with reality long ago.

The truth is that the Trump administration acted decisively to eliminate threats in Yemen—namely, the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels who have been lobbing missiles at U.S. allies and shipping lanes. The mission was a success. Our pilots returned safely. American interests were defended. And the left-wing media? They were too busy screaming about Signal chats to notice.

As White House Deputy Chief of Staff Taylor Budowich put it: “The Atlantic has already abandoned their bulls— ‘war plans’ narrative, and in releasing the full chat, they concede they LIED to perpetuate yet ANOTHER hoax on the American people. What scumbags!”

That about sums it up. The American people are wise to this game now. The Trump administration is getting results, restoring strength abroad, and cleaning house at home. Meanwhile, the media is melting down over group texts.

If this is the best the left has to offer—screeching about airstrike schedules in a secure chat app—then President Trump is clearly doing something right.
