Far-left Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum is throwing a tantrum over President Donald Trump’s bold executive order to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America.” Unsurprisingly, Sheinbaum and her ilk are refusing to acknowledge the change, claiming, “For us, it is still the Gulf of Mexico. And for the whole world, it will continue to be the Gulf of Mexico.” Well, bless her heart, but Trump’s move is a quintessential display of American leadership.
Trump announced the decision during his inauguration speech, where he officially directed the U.S. Secretary of the Interior to update federal maps with the new name. “The Gulf of America. What a beautiful name!” Trump declared. “And it’s appropriate. It’s appropriate.” He’s right—it’s about time that the United States asserts its role in a region where it carries the lion’s share of the responsibility.

The president’s rationale for the name change is rooted in reality. “We have a massive deficit with Mexico and we help Mexico a lot,” Trump said earlier this month while discussing the corruption plaguing the Mexican government. “They’re essentially run by the cartels. And we can’t let that happen. Mexico is really in trouble. A lot of trouble. A very dangerous place.”
He’s not wrong. Mexico’s government is so entangled with the cartels that it’s hard to tell who’s actually running the show. The Gulf of Mexico—or rather, the Gulf of America—is a critical region for U.S. trade, security, and energy production. Trump’s move is a symbolic yet powerful statement that America isn’t going to sit idly by while our southern neighbor spirals further into chaos.
Naturally, the far-left is up in arms, as they always are whenever Trump demonstrates strength and decisiveness. Sheinbaum’s pouty refusal to accept the change is as predictable as it is irrelevant. The United States—not Mexico—should have the final say in what it calls its own territory and adjacent waters.
This name change isn’t just a rebranding exercise; it’s a declaration of sovereignty, competence, and leadership. While Democrats continue to kowtow to globalist agendas and placate corrupt foreign governments, Trump’s America First agenda is unapologetically asserting itself on the world stage. The Gulf of America? It’s not just appropriate—it’s overdue.
