That decision led to Saturday’s unsuccessful attempt to assassinate Donald Trump. The former president barely survived being shot in the ear to witness the disorganized and inept reaction from the Secret Service. It was a catastrophic incident for a company whose goal is to never fail.
“The Post has learned that embattled Secret Service leader Kimberly Cheatle, who is facing calls to resign and congressional outcry over security lapses that led to Trump’s near-assassination on Saturday, was able to secure her position primarily due to her close relationship with First Lady Jill Biden.”
“…four individuals with deep ties to President Biden’s family who spoke with Cheatle during the Obama-Biden administration stated that the future first lady and her most senior staffers, including chief advisor Anthony Bernal, thought highly of her.”
“Anthony lobbied for Chetle to be on Dr. Biden’s second lady detail,” a Democratic insider told The Post. Anthony has never worked in law enforcement or national security. He should not be involved in the decision-making process for the USSS director.
The Post received information from another trustworthy source that Anthony had promoted her as a candidate during her director evaluation.
This news is sure to spark more controversy, given earlier claims that Trump removed Secret Service agents from his protection to support Jill Biden’s speech in Pennsylvania the same day. It also represents some of the bigger shortcomings of the Biden administration. Cheatle is a fervent advocate of DEI, having promised that, as part of a “diversity” effort, the Secret Service will have 30% female employees by 2030. What went unspoken was the reason why a person’s sexual orientation matters more than just selecting the most competent candidates—including those with the right physical attributes for the job at hand.
It is hardly surprising that the Bidens would go box-checking credentials. It’s astonishing how publicly stubborn Cheatle has been after the attempted assassination. In an interview following the shooting, she made it clear that she would not even contemplate retiring.
A while ago, this wouldn’t have even been a question. The worst Secret Service mishap since Ronald Reagan’s shooting occurred on Saturday. Modern technology and the fact that the gunman was fully visible from a short distance away on a low-lying rooftop made the Trump case a greater failure in several respects.
However, the Biden administration has consistently failed to hold anyone accountable or responsible. Jill Biden, who many believe is effectively in charge of the White House, is not someone who is intersectional. On Monday, Alejandro Mayorkas, the ousted Secretary of Homeland Security, offered Cheatle a vote of confidence.
Nothing in this situation will change on its own. Only by voting out Biden and firing all these incompetent department heads can this be fixed.
