Jaws fell to the floor this week after CNN’s top Medical Analyst Leana Wen, speaking to Victor Blackwell, made some unexpected comments about masks when prompted to offer Americans advice regarding the Omicron panic that’s gripping parts of the country ahead of gatherings for Christmas and New Years.
Wen, who served briefly as president of Planned Parenthood before being ousted within one year at the organization, said that the public should attend “events that are safe… events that have fun for people… we can’t be canceling everything.” She added that COVID can’t be a reason to cancel normal life especially since the virus is becoming endemic and will be with us “for the foreseeable future.” Wen’s comment was accidentally a debunking of Democrat President Biden’s recent promise to “shut down the virus.”
Speaking to people who are attending high-density celebrations such as in Times Square, Wen recommended being vaccinated and wearing a mask, but added that it needed to be “a three-ply surgical mask… don’t wear a cloth mask [they] are little more than facial decorations… there’s no place for them in light of Omicron.”

You heard right, a CNN Medical Analyst just shot down the entire cottage industry of face masks as “facial decorations,” completely contradicting the guidance of the CDC and openly overruling the White House’s renewed push for endless mask mandates.
Similar waves were made back in August when Michael Osterholm, a former Biden advisor and Policy Director for the University of Minnesota Center for Infectious Disease Research said that cloth masks were “not very effective” at preventing the spread of the COVID-19 virus either “in or out,” but this statement was quickly dismissed by White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki.

Wen’s statements also echo the words of Dr. Anthony Fauci who said early on in 2020 that “typical… drug store [masks]” are “not really effective” when it comes to preventing viral spread.
Despite knowing for months that cheap masks’ efficacy is essentially zero, the Biden Administration has continued to advocate relentlessly for mask mandates, refusing to tell Americans the full story about which masks are actually capable of preventing infection.
