Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) stated this week that if the FBI doesn’t comply with Congress, the House Republicans are considering abolishing the FBI director’s position.
“The FBI is joking around. As you are aware, the DOJ is unlikely to hold the FBI director responsible even if we file a complaint for contempt of Congress,” she stated on Fox News.
But she said, “We can use the Holman rule to formally defund the director’s job, which is something we are considering doing. That implies that we’ve successfully eliminated his income and, hence, his position, yeah.”
According to Federal News Network, the Holman Rule permits changes to funding legislation that would lower or terminate the pay of particular federal employees or eliminate a particular program.
It is unclear how many Republicans would support removing the position, but it might give Republicans more clout when pressing the FBI for information.
Then-Vice President Biden was accused of engaging in bribery, according to a document that FBI Director Christopher Wray declined to certify existed last month.
The FBI did, however, ultimately permit members of the House Oversight Committee to examine the paper inside a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) within the Capitol this week after House Republicans had threatened to place Wray in contempt of Congress for failing to turn over the paper. The Biden Justice Dept. charged former President Trump on the exact same day.
Luna’s warning follows her introduction of a motion to reprimand Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), which was shelved this week when 20 Republicans allied with Democrats to oppose it.
In response to their worries, Luna stated she is changing her resolve and would present a new one the following week.
Luna sent a tweet saying, “See you next week Adam.” Following the vote, she allegedly said it to him in person as she passed by him.
