House Republicans have dared the administration to back up its claims about the integrity of the legal system by sending criminal referrals to the Justice Department for two members of the Biden family.
On Wednesday, three Republican leaders sent Hunter and James Biden to the Department of Justice, asking for charges of lying to Congress about “important details” of President Joe Biden’s impeachment investigation.
In a letter to AG Merrick Garland and Special Counsel David Weiss, the committee leaders claimed that the false claims “implicate Biden’s knowledge and part in his family’s influence selling schemes and seem to be a calculated effort to protect Joe from the impeachment inquiry.”
House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO), House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH), and House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) all signed the letter, which contains more than 60 pages of examples of the two Biden clan members breaking the law to defend “The Big Guy.”
“Lying to the Congress is a serious offense with severe consequences.” James Biden and Hunter both took that action. Rep. Jordan said, “They lied to hide President Biden’s participation in their family’s multimillion-dollar international influence-peddling schemes.”
“We must hold the Bidens accountable for their criminal wrongdoing, as evidenced by these criminal referrals made by the Biden family,” he continued.
“Our research shows that President Biden was aware of, took part in, and benefited from his family’s global cash-in on the Biden name. The President continues to mislead the American citizens about his part in these influence-peddling operations, in spite of the evidence that has been documented. Rep. Comer noted in a statement that “it seems to make false comments runs in the Biden family.”
“In what seems to be a coordinated attempt to conceal Joe’s involvement in the family schemes, we have discovered that President Biden’s brother and son have been telling flagrant lies to Congress. We are recommending Hunter and James Biden to the Justice Department for criminal prosecution for making false statements to Congress as part of our efforts to hold the Bidens responsible for making money off of public office. The Oversight chairman said, promising justice for the corrupt family, “This is not the end of our efforts to keep the Bidens accountable, it is only the beginning.”
The criminal referrals now put the Biden administration under pressure to demonstrate that the law is equally administered, that justice is served and that the system is more than a tool for political advantage against Republicans, former President Donald J. Trump, and his allies.
