After FBI Director Christopher Wray was unable to specify which FBI personnel had been disciplined for making unauthorized Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act requests, Representative Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) criticized the law enforcement officer for his lack of substantive responses.
In response to reports that Hunter Biden allegedly sent texts to a Chinese Communist Party leader, Gaetz slammed the senior FBI agent for protecting the Biden family.
Gaetz exhibited a supposedly Hunter Biden-sent WhatsApp message to CCP official Henry Zhao in 2017 that a congressman referred to as a “shakedown,” and which had the following text:
“My father and I are seated here and we want to know why the agreement made hasn’t been kept. Inform the director that I’d want to get this resolved tonight if possible in order to prevent things from getting out of hand. And Z, I promise you’ll regret not following my order if I receive a call or text from anybody involved in this except for you, Zhang, or the chairman thanks to the man sitting right here next to me and everyone he knows as well as my capacity to retain a grudge forever. I’m sitting here waiting on your call beside my father.”
“Does this seem like a shakedown to you, Director?” Gaetz read some of the messages before asking. “You seem utterly uninterested in it, even suspiciously uninterested. Are the Bidens under your protection?” Gaetz questioned Wray.
Wray said, “Absolutely not,”
Gaetz intervened, saying, “You are refusing to answer the question, and everybody knows why you won’t respond because to the millions of people watching this, they’re aware it is a shakedown.”
The FBI director was also targeted by the Florida lawmaker for the organization’s serial abuse of FISA petitions.
In 2022, the FBI acknowledged conducting 204,000 FISA searches on Americans, according to the Daily Mail.
“People were searching for themselves and their ex-lovers. Who has been disciplined or dismissed as a result of the FBI’s creepy personal snooping apparatus, the FISA process?” Gaetz was asked.
“There have been occasions where someone received disciplinary punishment and left the organization.” Wray replied, but Gaetz cut him off by demanding, “Name them.”
“I am unable to get into it here, although we can follow back up,” Wray said.
