According to the state’s Reparations Task Force chair, black Californians should receive $1 million each, and those who are homeless should get priority.
The group discovered that the state’s previous redlining housing methods affecting the black community impacted people who are currently living on the streets, Kamila Moore alleged in an interview with Al Sharpton, the Daily Mail reported on Friday.
According to the publication, the group initially suggested that the state give each black inhabitant more than $200,000:
“Moore had previously stated that the panel’s economists believed reparations for black Californians who were descended from slaves should be $1 million per person.”
“Moore, 30, highlighted that the panel is considering how to assist those who would need the money the most as it gets ready to make its final recommendations in July. The panel claims that the payouts would further the economy’s growth.”
According to a November report, California’s Democrat governor Gavin Newsom and regional politicians have been at odds over who is to blame for the state’s homeless crisis.
Breitbart News reported on December 1 that the state has been thinking about making up for problems like “mass imprisonment” and possibly paying money to black slave descendants.
The publication did point out that California joined the Union as a free state.
The report stated that “in the midst of the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed a measure creating a commission on reparations – despite the fact that the state never sanctioned slavery. The panel, which is mostly made up of black individuals and is not representative of the state, voted 5–4 to limit reparations to slaves’ descendants and provided recommendations that also include separate black schools.”
However, Breitbart News reported on December 17 that actor and comedian Faizon Love thinks the reparations money California proposes to pay Black folks will be wasted.
“Screw that. You know why that’s another trick, man? Because that money will immediately return to Cadillac and motherfucking [Mercedes] Benz,” he said.
Moore responded that after George Floyd was killed, “The country came to a racial reckoning in 2020” in response to Sharpton’s question about why she thinks the issue has gained attention.
