Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced on Wednesday that he would use state funds to invest in domestic manufacturing of microchips and semiconductors in order to improve the national security and supply chain of the U.S., freeing it from the “hostage” situation imposed on America by the Chinese Communist Party.

DeSantis said during a press conference that it was incumbent upon his constituency “as Floridians and Americans” to escape being “captive to… these foreign nations, particularly… the Communist Party of China.” He added that even with supplies coming from allied nations such as Taiwan, any disruption in the supply chain could through America’s production for a loop, and so to leverage the capacity of America, and Florida in particular, is a major opportunity that he refuses to see missed, in the name of national and economic security.
On December 20th, DeSantis announced that he would be taking measures to confront Communist China head-on, and set about conducting an investigation into all of the Florida assets that the state has with Chinese companies.
DeSantis criticized Chinese owned companies for their perfect compliance and obedience to any order the CCP gives them, no matter how crazy. He argued that including China in the World Trade Organization was likely a mistake, not forcing the Communist nation to act more like a first-world democracy but rather improving their national and economic security whilst they continue to pursue a path of authoritarianism and collectivization.
DeSantis said that he expected the state legislature to implement “statutory changes… that the Communist Party of China is not a vehicle that we want to be entangled with.” He added that severing ties with the Communist nation is “very, very prudent” and that bolstering domestic production in the United States is a necessary action.
The release from DeSantis’ office claims that the steps he’s taking as Governor will “strengthen Florida’s fiscal footing” as well as send a message to compliant corporations who are willing to “prop up a genocidal, authoritarian, imperialist regime.”
Jeanette Nunez, Florida’s Lieutenant Governor, said that the time has come to end the Communist Party’s “infiltrat[ion of] our financial and educational institutions.
