Last Sunday, while Democrat President Joe Biden’s administration was faced with challenges from the authoritarian regime of Vladimir Putin, Taiwan intercepted dozens of Chinese military aircraft in what appears to be yet another taunt directed at the reportedly weak U.S. president.
According to Reuters, the Chinese air mission included four electronic warfare planes, a bomber, and 34 fighter craft. Taiwan responded by threatening the Chinese aircraft with missile systems, as well as sending combat aircraft up to warn them away.
The news breaks just as war seems to be imminent in Eastern Europe, with U.S officials expecting Russia to launch a land invasion in Ukraine in the coming days.
Former CIA Director and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo warned in an interview over the weekend that America’s enemies are anxiously watching the Biden administration’s response to Russian aggression. He said that they’re hoping to learn whether or not America “has the resolve and the steel to use all of its tools to preserve sovereignty for a nation like Ukraine.” He added that leaders from Iran, North Korea, and China are all watching to see Biden’s next move.
Ranking Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Representative Michael McCaul (R-TX) similarly warned last weekend that what plays out in Ukraine in the coming days “has broader global ramifications… it’s about China… about President Xi and Taiwan… about Ayatollah and the bomb.” He gravely stated that America is “seen as weak right now because of President Biden.”
The Biden administration indicated recently that they will not be able to evacuate U.S. citizens currently in Ukraine as conditions in the country rapidly deteriorate.
The State Department warned U.S. citizens in the country to “plan accordingly” in response to the fact that “military action by Russia could come at any time” and that the American government won’t “be in a position to evacuate U.S. citizens.”
The latest word from the Biden administration is for all travel to Ukraine to be halted, and a plea that all U.S. citizens attempt to leave the country on their own.
A recent report claims that Biden is attempting to rectify his weak appearance by issuing as many as 5,000 troops to nearby NATO allies in the region, however, experts warn that this is too little too late while the aging president continues to deliberate on what role the U.S. will play in the coming conflict.
