Liz Cheney just learned the hard way what happens when you go after Elon Musk and Trump’s America First agenda. The former GOP congresswoman got shredded on social media after defending USAID, the bloated and scandal-ridden agency that Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has effectively shut down.
Cheney Tries to Clap Back at Musk—Fails Miserably
The drama started when Cheney, still clinging to relevance, jumped into a discussion about her past work at USAID, the very agency Musk and Trump’s administration have targeted for elimination due to decades of wasteful spending.
“Damn right, @Elon,” Cheney wrote on X, accidentally tagging a fake Musk account, before launching into a self-righteous rant about her role in fighting communism and bizarrely suggesting that Musk, a U.S. citizen by choice, was unfamiliar with American history.
Damn right, @Elon. I’m proud of what America did to win the Cold War, defeat Soviet communism, and defend democracy. Our nation stood for freedom. You may be unfamiliar with that part of our history since you weren’t yet an American citizen. https://t.co/lYpGhmVJnT

Musk’s response? A simple “Interesting.” That’s all it took for conservatives to pile on and tear Cheney apart.
Conservatives Wreck Cheney Over USAID, Musk Attack
Cheney’s post didn’t go over well—not even a little bit.
- Mollie Hemingway, Editor-in-Chief of The Federalist, shut her down instantly:
“He is an American by choice instead of by birth, which is a weird thing to insult someone over, but more importantly, he didn’t commit so many crimes against the country that he had to be pardoned by Joe Biden, so he’s got that going for him.”
- Former Georgia State Rep. Vernon Jones took it further:
“You care more about illegals coming to this country stealing from this country than @elon giving to this country.”
- Fox News Contributor Joey Jones exposed the real Cheney legacy:
“Ya, but he was around when your daddy was making the military-industrial complex billions sending me and my buddies to die chasing the ghosts of WMDs in Iraq.”
- Chris Barron of Right Turn Strategies called out Cheney’s hypocrisy:
“Funny how they always end up being everything they claim their opponents are.”
- Twitchy Editor Samantha Janney torched Cheney’s weak attempt to stay relevant:
“The fact Elon said a single word and was able to set you off tells me a lot, Liz. What’s also revealing is your connection to USAID. Damn proud of WY for firing you.”
- Breitbart Senior Editor Joel Pollak put it bluntly:
“What a xenophobe. Pure bigotry.”
It wasn’t just conservatives noticing Cheney’s deep roots in the Washington swamp. Mike Benz, Executive Director of the Foundation for Freedom Online, pointed out how many of America’s political elites—like Cheney and even Obama—grew up in USAID-connected families.
USAID Gets the Axe— The Swamp is Draining
While Cheney was busy virtue-signaling, Trump’s administration officially shuttered USAID’s headquarters on Monday. Thousands of bureaucrats were left wondering if they still had jobs, while Secretary of State Marco Rubio, now acting USAID administrator, promised a full overhaul of the scandal-ridden agency.
“For decades, USAID has been unaccountable to taxpayers, funneling massive sums of money to ridiculous—and often malicious—projects with next to no oversight,” the White House said in a statement.
Trump’s America First team isn’t stopping here. With Musk’s DOGE running full audits and eliminating waste across the federal government, expect more corrupt agencies to face the chopping block.
As for Liz Cheney? She’s been exposed yet again as just another swamp creature trying to cling to her old power structures. Too bad for her, those days are over.
