Former Republican President Donald Trump turned down an offer from CBS to do an interview on “60 Minutes,” but the network and the campaign have different ideas about whether he ever took the offer.
The Trump team says they talked to CBS but that Trump never agreed to the interview.
“Fake News… Initial talks took place, but nothing was ever set in stone or planned.”
The network said, “For more than 50 years, 60 Minutes has asked the Democratic and Republican ticket to appear on our show as Americans head to the polls. This year, both the Trump and Harris camps decided to talk to 60 Minutes.”
The interview was going to be on a special episode of the show on Monday.
“After at first agreeing to an interview with Scott Pelley on 60 Minutes, the campaign for former President Trump has chosen not to take part,” CBS said.
The interview with Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris will go on with her on CBS.
“Our original offer to talk to former President Donald Trump on 60 Minutes stands,” it said.
The Trump team said bad things about CBS in a statement.
“Fake News. 60 Minutes begged for an interview, even though they had lied about Hunter Biden’s laptop in 2020. There were some early talks, but nothing was ever set in stone or planned,” campaign manager Steven Cheung said.
CBS says that “60 Minutes” is the most-watched news show in the United States.
