On Wednesday, he was sworn in as the National Advisor for Nutrition, Health, and Housing at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). In this position, Dr. Carson will work closely with USDA Secretary Rollins and serve as a top advisor to President Trump. He will help shape policies that focus on better nutrition, more access to healthcare in small towns, and affordable housing. According to a USDA press release, Carson will also join Secretary Rollins on the President’s Make America Healthy Again Commission, an initiative aimed at improving the overall well-being of Americans.
This appointment reflects the Trump administration’s continued focus on practical solutions to long-standing problems. Carson’s medical background and experience in housing policy give him a unique mix of skills for this role. During his time as HUD secretary under President Trump’s first term, Carson focused on reducing homelessness and cutting red tape for housing programs. At a recent event held by the American Cornerstone Institute, a group founded by Carson, President Trump announced that Carson will be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. This marks the second time Carson will receive the award. He was first honored in 2008 by President George W. Bush for his work in medicine.
The American Cornerstone Institute promotes values such as faith, liberty, and community—principles that have guided Carson throughout his life. These same values are also central to the Trump administration’s policy goals.
