Republican senators claim that Mykola Zlochevsky, a former Ukrainian government minister and founder of Burisma Holdings, gave President Joe Biden $5 million and has two audio tapes as security for the pay-for-play plan.
Today, it is uncertain where Zlochevsky is. According to reports, he departed Ukraine in 2019 after being accused of embezzlement, and some people believe he is now in Monaco. According to an Al Jazeera investigation, he allegedly purchased Cypriot citizenship between 2017 and 2019.
Zlochevsky co-founded Burisma in 2002, it is believed that an offshore Cypriot investment fund purchased Burisma in 2011. He was the Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council from April 2012 to February 2014, according to the Guardian, and Zlochevsky also served as the Ecology and Natural Resources Minister of Ukraine from 2010 to 2012. Zlochevsky is accused of giving gas licenses to his friends while serving as environment minister, according to a British daily newspaper.
When it came to Burisma in 2016, Zlochevsky was suspected of public corruption and money laundering. Victor Shokin, the prosecutor, looked into the matter before being fired as a result of pressure from Joe Biden, the vice president at the time, who threatened to withhold $1 billion in U.S. funding from Ukraine if the Ukrainian government did not dismiss Shokin. Regarding the dismissal in 2018, Joe Biden boasted.
Hunter Biden served on the board of Burisma in 2016, where he made $83,000 per month as a board member, along with his friend Devon Archer. Hunter was added to the board in 2014 by the corporation.
The Bidens, Burisma, and Zlochevsky connection was described in detail in Sen. Chuck Grassley’s (R-IA) 2020 Senate report:
“Massive protests in Kyiv, Ukraine, broke out in the latter part of 2013 and early 2014, calling for the country’s economic integration with the West and the eradication of the systemic corruption that had long plagued it. The demonstrations concluded on February 21 when Viktor Yanukovych resigned from office and fled the nation, with at least 82 people having died during the unrest. Significant events involving the Bidens occurred less than two months later, over the course of just 28 days.”
“On April 16, 2014, Vice President Biden met with Devon Archer, his son’s business partner, in the White House. Five days later, Vice President Biden traveled to Ukraine, and the media quickly referred to him as the ‘public face of the administration’s handling of Ukraine.’ Archer joined the board of Burisma the day following his visit, on April 22. The London bank accounts of Mykola Zlochevsky, the owner of Burisma, were raided by British authorities six days later, on April 28. Hunter Biden joined the Burisma board on May 12—14 days later—and over the next few years, a crooked Ukrainian billionaire paid him and Devon Archer millions of dollars for their membership.”
