In a recent interview, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) claimed that President Joe Biden’s administration deliberately caused the current illegal immigration crisis at the U.S. southern border.
Johnson shared his views on CBS News’s “Face The Nation,” discussing the unprecedented surge of illegal immigrants entering the U.S. In December alone, there were 302,000 encounters with illegal aliens at the southern border.
“The situation is a humanitarian disaster and a major threat to our national security,” Johnson stated. “The scale of the chaos is hard to grasp – the impact on countless lives, the trafficking of minors, and the fentanyl crisis poisoning our nation.”
He stressed that these issues stem from dangerous transnational criminal groups. Johnson expressed frustration, pointing out that the White House’s policy choices led to this disorder. According to him, changing these policies could resolve the crisis.
Johnson observed that the chaos began with Biden’s entry into office and his implementation of new policies through executive orders.
He argued that simply increasing funding is not a viable solution. Instead, the focus should be on getting DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to enforce existing immigration laws.
“We’ve been urging Secretary Mayorkas since his appointment to uphold the law. Yet, he’s consistently done the opposite,” Johnson noted. “He’s even given false testimony to Congress on multiple occasions.”
Johnson concluded his remarks by expressing a strong opinion about Mayorkas. “I think Secretary Mayorkas has utterly failed, not due to incompetence, but by deliberate action. These are intentional policy decisions he’s made, and there needs to be accountability for that.”
