Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is heading to the southern border on Monday in his first visit since taking office, reinforcing President Donald Trump’s no-nonsense immigration crackdown.
Border Crisis Already Easing
Hegseth’s visit follows a staggering 93% drop in border encounters, according to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who made her own trip to the border on Sunday. Trump’s America First immigration policy is delivering results—and the numbers prove it.
Before Trump took office, 2,500 active-duty troops were stationed at the border. Now, with 1,500 more military personnel deployed under his administration, the message is clear: The days of an open border are over.
Hegseth’s Mission: Secure America’s Border
Hegseth, a fierce Trump loyalist, has been vocal about his commitment to border security. “POTUS wants 100% operational control of the border — and we will deliver,” he posted on X, making it clear that border security is now a top-tier national security priority.
Hegseth will also visit Fort Bliss, a massive 1.12-million-acre military base that could play a critical role in securing the southern border. The base houses 90,000 troops and their families, putting serious firepower behind Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration.
Putting Guantanamo To Use
Hegseth has backed Trump’s proposal to send criminal illegal immigrants to Guantanamo Bay, calling it “the perfect place” for them. And he would know—Hegseth himself served at Gitmo during his time in the Army, guarding detainees.
His appointment wasn’t without controversy. The Senate confirmation vote was so tight that Vice President JD Vance had to break the tie. But now that Hegseth is in charge, expect no mercy for border-jumpers, cartel traffickers, and illegal invaders.
What’s Next?
With Trump doubling down on border security, expect more troop deployments, stricter enforcement, and zero tolerance for illegal crossings. The open-borders era is officially dead—and Hegseth is making sure of it.
